Bendtner on the verge of Arsenal exit

Nicklas Bendtner seems to be on the verge of leaving Arsenal after it was revealed he has offers available to him. The big dane could only earn a place on the bench last season, when he did get a chance to play, it was usually on the wing, out of position. He was recently left out in the 23 man squad for Arsenal’s pre season tour to Asia, fuelling speculation he is on his way out of the Emirates. In 32 appearances last season, he only managed 9 goals, which put him as thrid choice striker behind Robin Van Persie and Marouane Chamakh. Clubs from both Germany and Portgual are reportedly interested in the Arsenal forward. Frank Arnesen, formerly of Chelsea and now Hamburg sporting director, told Hamburger Abendblatt:

“We need more creativity in our offence. A midfielder with quality would be good for us,”

“Bendtner would be a real dream, he is a very interesting player. He can also play as an attacking midfielder behind the attacker. But it would almost amount to a small miracle for us to get him.”

There are two other clubs who have made Nicklas an offer and we are unfortunately not in that position.”

Despite keen interest, Hamburg look likely to miss out on the 23 year old, but two unnamed clubs have put in an offer. Meanwhile, Dortmund have ruled themselves out of the race for the Danish international. Club chief executive officer Hans-Joachim Watzke said:

“There has never been an offer from Borussia Dortmund for Nicklas Bendtner,”

“Of course we could make larger transfers but we don’t want to borrow any money.”

The majority of Arsenal fans would want to see the back of Bendtner, who was heavily criticised in the 09/10 season in which he missed many chances, and with no other options available due to injury, Wenger was forced to play him up front. However, some feel as though he hasn’t been given a chance, but his days at Arsenal seem to be numbered.

Gervinho: “I choose Arsenal”

Lille striker Gervinho told France Football magazine there are only “a few details” left to finalise, before his £11 million transfer to the gunners is complete. The Ivorian scored 15 goals last season, as well earning 10 assists, in 43 appearances for the team which won the French double last season. The 24 year old has promised Arsenal fans he will help to end their club’s 6 year trophy drought. He said:

“I chose Arsenal because it’s a young group within which I will be able to integrate easily,”

“I could develop more over there. There’s only a few details left to sort out.

“A risk? Not at all. I’m going to Arsenal to play. The best risk to take is to look to score goals and to play a lot.

“In football you have to take risks if you want to win. I’m going to Arsenal to win.

“I had no hesitation. None. But in a transfer there’s always a period of analysis and negotiations. All sides had to be satisfied so that things could develop smoothly.

“I’m going there to play, not to be on the bench. Arsenal love the game. And I love teams that love the game.

“The Premier League is a notch above. It’s maybe the best league in the world. I want to live that sensation.”

Tottenham were also keen on aquiring the services of Gervinho, but Champions League football was too hard an offer to turn down. He is set to put pen to paper to complete a four year deal worth £60,000 a week.

His arrival to the Emirates could signal the already imminent departure of Nicklas Bendtner, who is interesting numerous clubs, namely from Germany and Portugal.
